When a movie from Siddiqui arrives in Kollywood, it obviously has the red carpets spread out. Well, the situation is same in any industry as his remakes of all the movies have worked out best results. This could be illustrated with Vijay-Suriya starrer Friends to Salman Khan’s Body Guard. Now the filmmaker returns back to Kollywood with ‘Bhaskar Oru Rascal’, which is a remake of his yesteryear super hit movie ‘Bhaskar The Rascal’ starring Mammootty and Nayanthara in lead roles. The remake version features Arvind Swami and Amala Paul in lead roles.

The film is about couple of kids trying to unite their single parents together. The drama that is laced with humour and emotions is narrated in a pretty good engrossing style by Siddiqui. Having said that the story line is so simple, the earnest thing that audience should carry inside theatres is that ‘Don’t expect anything larger than life.’ It’s a family entertainer of the early 2000s, where the reviews don’t matter, but one time watchable experience is more than enough, especially for summer vacations.

Arvind Swami has attempted something different. This is a kind of role that is always spotted irked and infuriated, but will evoke humour. Amala Paul looks little odd for this role. In original version, Nayanthara had played this role efficiently with maturity and even her makeover was quite appreciable. But then, Amala Paul sporting glamorous looks doesn’t suit her as a mother of a child. Ramesh Khanna, Soori and Robo Shankar try to offer their best in humour. But it works out only in few places.

Others in the star-cast have given what is required for the role. Musical score by Amresh is just average.

Siddiqui movies always carry emotions and entertainment together. This would be seen balanced in all the movies, but here the degree is slightly lesser.

Nevertheless, the film can be regarded as the one time enjoyable show for the family audiences.
