It’s a Brave Attempt by the director Soundarya Rajnikanth in bringing out this first attempt in making a  motion capture 3D computer-animated period film in Indian cinema. Superstar plays a dual role, as Rana and Kochadaiiyan. With his very powerful voice, Kochadaiiyan characterization just rocks. But it’s hard to see Deepika Padukone in this animated avatar. Other cast includes Aadhi, Jackie Sheroff, Shobana, Nasser and Sarathkumar – who disappears in the second half.
The way they used Nagesh using the latest technology is brilliant, good thought. Heart of the film is A R Rahman’s music, start from the title card to end credits, his RR is just mind blowing. Songs are also nice. My pick is ‘Maatram..’ & ‘Sathiyam..’ songs. Felt too many songs for this 1hrs 50 min crisp film.
Major plus is the story and screen play by K S Ravikumar with his interesting periodical script. It has no twists or turns. Films ends with – To be continued… Second half is better than first, especially the flashback scene of Rajnikanth as Kochadaiiyaan scenes. Animation is decent, not as great as Avatar (obvious). Kudos to Soundarya Rajini for introducing motion capture tech to indian cinema. Due to the animation effect, feel of watching a superstar film is definitely missing. Good script and presentation makes the movie a Worthy to watch.
