Kuruthi Kalam Web Series Review

With Hindi domain having the best of web series created and successfully going through second and third seasons, Tamil industry is still lacking the substantiality and is lagging behind. Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Queen, somewhat attempted to be different and now Kuruthi Kalam comes up with a unique pattern for it has been completely made for the OTT platform rather than remodeling the film for the sake of it.

The story revolves around two big time gangsters in Chennai waging war upon each other. Amidst the chaos, a honest disciplined youngster Vijay (Santhosh Prathap) gets involved, which devastates his personal life and professional career to become a police officer.

Such stories are no new to the Tamil industry and however, attempts might be made, there cannot be a Mirzapur herein Chennai until and unless a proper research is done like Vada Chennai. The makers have attempted making a commercial entertainer, but fail to deliver an unconventional story. Most of the scenes are either outdated and some of them are even irking. Especially, the way, the director and writers portray women characters are completely disappointing. There’s a dialogue, where hero says, “Inaikku Naan Ninacha kidaikaadha Ponne Illa”. It doesn’t suit him as well and there is another dialogue, where Soundarajan says, “I wanted everything Arun has including his girlfriend.” The action sequences are good. Even the performances of few actors are good. We aren’t sure how the second season is going to be.

On the whole, Kuruthi Kalam has a proper structure of web series, but doesn’t engage us.
