Ajith Kumar’s Nerkonda Paarvai had created a unique impact from its point of inception. The first and foremost thing was a usual remake indeed. The honest question and assumption that prevailed was how an actor with such a huge superstardom would opt for a movie like Pink, which had an actor like Amitabh Bachchan, who actually gets his piece of attention only in second hour. This created a tug of war within everyone’s minds, but what kept them intact with good expectations with Nerkonda Paarvai is the basic premise.

Three girls (Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam & Andrea Tariang) get into trouble with few devil-may-care guys over a night time. The guys get bashed down by these girls when they try to take physical advantage on them and with strong influence, they hard-press these girls with false accusations before the law. Just when the lives of these girls have almost fainted to end, the ray of hope comes through a retired lawyer (Ajith Kumar), who has been witnessing the unbearable pain of these innocent girls imposed by satanic scoundrels.

As mentioned above, major sector of audiences, especially Ajith Kumar fans would have eventually watched the original version and in the leanest case, few would have just tried looking into the film’s synopsis at least. But with the trailer, we could find that the traces are not completely noticeable as the presence of the star-cast had prepared for us an intense drama. At the same time, the myth that Ajith Kumar appears as an aged lawyer was broken with the final shot we saw in the trailer. There are few elements that are nicely reworked by H. Vinoth and one among them is the action sequence.

For the ones, who watched the original version would have definitely had a big question popping up. When these villainous characters are capable of doing anything evil, why would they refrain from attacking this aged lawyer, which would have wrapped up the case in their favour? This remained to be an unanswered question, which gets solved by Vinoth’s ability to showcase the protagonist as not just a brainy one, but brawny indeed. In many places, to see an actor like Ajith Kumar give away the space to the actresses leaves us surprised. It really needs a strong self-confidence to take up such projects, where it is purely content driven script rather than massy one.

The entire first half showcases the problems experienced the leading characters following which the second hour gets more momentum, especially with the action block that arrives by the interval point. Yes, Ajith Kumar deserves special mention for taking up this role at this point of time. It is not about his transcendence, but he is turning more spotlights on Tamil cinema as no other artiste in the South Indian industry had attempted this before. Shraddha Srinath, Rangaraj Pandey and Abhirami Venkatachalam have made a tremendous impact with their performances. However, the portions involving Vidya Balan looks little unwanted and it could have been just like the original version.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s BGM happens to be one of the most intriguing elements in the film. The courtroom drama has been stunningly done that will surely have an outstanding result in theatres.

Overall, Nerkonda Paarvai offers a completely different experience to the audiences of Tamil cinema with the reason being a great actor like Ajith Kumar opting for a film like Pink.
