Comedy-riot was the main core that we sensed with the visual promos of ‘Sakka Podu Podu Raja’. The film is helmed by Sethuraman and is produced by VTV Ganesh with Santhanam, Vivek, Vaibhav Shandilya and Sampath in the star-cast alongside Robo Shankar, VTV Ganesh and few more prominent actors. The film has been highlighted for it has the musical score by STR.
When Santhanam made his debut in lead role through Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham, we saw him sticking closely to the characterization and such was his portrayed in next movie too. But with Dhillukku Dhuddu, he slightly started experimenting with mass hero avatars and here it becomes too overdosed. Nevertheless, his comedy timing with witty lines is what keeps us engrossed. Of course, we love Santhanam for this reason and he keeps it adequate proportions. But to see him get indulged in romance and action sequences with lots of massy slow motion shots looks little odd. It would be nice to see him if he comes up with more script laden roles. Vaibhav Shandilya looks befittingly perfect for being model on post cards, but to see her merely for the glamorous appeal out here might not be a long standing one. She has to work a lot with her performance. Vivek keeps tickling our funny bones throughout the film, especially with his episodes with Sampath, VTV Ganesh and Santhanam, he does the best. Power Star despites appearing in just couple of sequences tickles our funny bones relentlessly and theatres erupt with more fun. Robo Shankar does a simple role out here. Sampath as a rough person creates humour with his situational proceeding.
Couple of songs composed by STR – Kalakku Machaan and Kadhal Devathai are appreciable. Other songs are good as well, but it stays nowhere close to the script. In fact, the songs and action sequences turn out to be a speed breaker. Sethuraman could have tuned the script with few more drama, which would have made it more appealing.
On the whole, Sakka Podu Podu Raja is enjoyable in places and will serve as a good passable show if you drop your expectations and just enjoy the show with witty lines of actors.
