An usual paradigm of a Gautham Vasudev Menon film, where you’ll find the plot so simple and characterizations as well, but the dramatic approach would be much appealing. For the first ever time, we see him blending two different genres – Romance and Thriller together. What begins as a sweet breezy romance during the first hour travels a journey of turbulent violence.

A youngster (STR) has no plans for his future after his Engineering and MBA studies decides to take a road trip. During the last minute, his younger sister’s classmate Leela (Manjima Mohan) with whom he has been serenely in love with. Everything goes fine, breezy and sublime until a violent attack strikes them and rest proceeds unpredictably.

If you had expected something from the traces of VTV, yes, you do have the dosage,

Firstly, we would like to bring out what you expected and what you get here? If you had expected something from the traces of VTV, yes, you do have the dosage, but limited to just 45 minutes for the rest would be a high volatile thriller drama. There are few references that sparkle up smiles as when STR’s younger sister jokes her friend’s name is “Leena! Leena Joseph” and you here the preludes of ‘Hosanna’ from AR Rahman and then the reference that you have already seen in the film’s teaser… What becomes the major impact is the placement of ‘Thalli Pogathey’ that happens during a much unexpected twist, where you would be on your edge of seats. But sooner, the film travels into a plot that has no relevance with the past drama. STR has just done a clear crisp job for the characterization doesn’t demand more than a transformation of a boy into a man overnight in accordance to the violent misadventures. His body language and expressions are at the best. What’s special about Manjima Mohan is that she doesn’t look a self-aggrandized heroine, but just a casual girl that you find across the lanes of an urban Chennai. Choreographer Satish does become the major attraction of humour, though his culmination in second half might strike as a shock. Baba Sehgal rendering his dialogues in Hindi makes it easier to get his character substantial.

Although everything is set right in places, the basic problem with Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada is that it is stuck between Romance and Thriller. Somewhere like you eat two best dishes that doesn’t go well with each other during banquet. Moreover, the last few minutes getting into the most mass commercial zone is something that is out of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s game, which is so much relevant, but never mind, STR fans will scream out of their ribs.

AR Rahman is main showstopper, where in spite of all the songs are done by first half, the second half just strongly travels with his empyreal BGM. Don’t miss the surprise of ‘Showkali’ with AR Rahman and STR version. Cinematography and locations are so much enticing and editing by Antony is crispy that keeps everything intact.
