Dharma Durai Expectations are obviously high as the film is coming from a national award winning combo (‘Thenmerku Paruvakaatru’). Coming to the story, movie speaks about the life of a village guy from his age 24 to 34. Happenings in his love life, profession, marriage, friendship and family frames the main plot of the film.

Vijay Sethupathy gets a meaty role and he is perfect fit. As a rural drunkard guy, a doctor, a lover boy and a son, he has showed different avatars through his acting. His performance in the flash back portion in one particular scene was outstanding. Next to him is Radhika Sharathkumar, as Vijay Sethupathy’s mother she nailed it. Easily one of the best role in her career.

Film has three lead ladies – Tamanna, Aishwarya Rajesh and Srushti Dange. Among the three, Aishwarya Rajesh stands out. Though her screen presence is limited, she did a wonderful job. Tamanna has done complete justice to her character. Srushti gets an extended cameo. M.S.Bhaskar never fails to impress us in each movie, this is also not an exception. Kanja Karuppu is back in action after a long gap. Few of his witty dialogues are enjoyable.

Music is composed by Seenu Ramasamy’s favorite music director Yuvan Shankar Raja. After a dull period, Yuvan is really back with nice songs and apt BGM. Album has a proper mix of folk and melody numbers. ‘Aandipatt…i’, ‘Poi vaada..’ and ‘Endha Pakkam…’ songs stay in mind. Songs have been elevated to the next level by Vairamuthu’s lyrics.

Cinematography needs a special mention. Sukumaar’s camera work is brilliant, gives the rural flavor feel. Dance choreography is commendable in the opening song ‘Makka Kalanguthappa’. Film has only one action sequence, which was neatly choreographed. Duration of 2 hrs 20 minutes is perfect.

Directed by National award winning filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy, like his previous films he has touched the same rural based subject. We should appreciate him for his attempt to convey the social message through this script. Good story and a neat screenplay. First half doesn’t show much about the actual story, which gives the feel that film falls a little flat. But second half is the key with an excellent flashback portion. Seenu Ramasamy proves again that he is an efficient story teller.

On the flip side, few scenes looks very dramatic and gives an artificial feel. Highlights of the movie are the performance from Vijay Sethupathy, Aishwarya Rajesh and Radhika, the flashback portion and the songs. To sum it, all the departments have worked in tandem resulting in a satisfying experience for the viewer.
