There have been plethora of political thrillers released over the years and while watching ‘KO 2’, directed by debutant Sarath, there comes certain comparisons to be made on pars with movies like Telugu one titled ‘Prathinidhi’ and the other one in Tamil ‘Desiya Geetham’, directed by Cheran in 1998. But the similarities just end with the basic plot, but the treatment offered by Sarath stands out to be a much appealing on the screenplay, which can be regarded as the brilliant flash point of this film. The film stars National Award Winners Bobby Simha and Prakash Raj in lead roles with Nikki Galrani playing the female lead role and Bala Saravanan, Ilavarasan and few more prominent actors playing important characters…

The film opens with Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu (Prakash Raj) being kidnapped by a mysterious person, who is none other than an ordinary man (Bobby Simha). As soon as the news reaches the city, the turmoil begins, a psychotic cop laced with humour nature arrives to handle the operation, media channels start flashing their stories and the political party members break out with revulsions. What’s the purpose behind such a gruesome kidnap and what are the demands of protagonist behind this deed is much narrated with interesting twists and turns during the second half.

First and foremost, director Sarath deserves special mention for making sure that screenplay is packaged with interesting narration. Well, for the first few minutes, the narration looks little sluggish, but it takes an absolute shoot up with high momentum during the point of intermission and from then, there is no turning back. The second half involves lots of raciness with an unexpected twist that comes with the characterization of Karunakaran. Bobby Simha has done a remarkable job. It has been a long pending inquisitive thing to see Bobby Simha come out of ‘Assault’ Sethu character that won him National awards in Jigarthanda. Over here, it is obvious that he has shed that image and has done a fabulous job. Prakash Raj doesn’t need a review to analyze his performance and as usual, he makes an impressive show with a sleep walk through the role. Ilavarasu being sketched in a much popular political figure role is so much appreciative thing that Sarath deserves for being so bold enough to bring them upon the screens. For the first time, Bala Saravanan has done something unique and different from his erstwhile movies.

On the technical aspects, we get to see that the background score by young and happening Leon James has come out really well. The songs being limited becomes a major element in not hampering the screenplay. The top-notch cinematography is at its best.

One of the most intriguing elements about the film is punch of dialogues that are politically striking. Obviously, with the election season on its peak, the message and drama from KO 2 is instantly going to appeal to everyone’s senses.
