Actor Vishal Urges Theatre Owners to ban opening weekend YouTube opinions!

Actor Vishal, serving as the General Secretary of Nadigar Sangam, has called upon theatre owners across Tamil Nadu to prohibit YouTube channels and digital platforms from filming public reviews and audience reactions inside theatres during the first three days of a film’s release. The actor voiced this appeal during a film related event held in Chennai this morning (July 16), where he stressed the need to safeguard a film’s early box office run.

In an era where “First Day First Show” reactions go viral within minutes, many filmmakers and actors have found their projects prematurely judged, often leading to a dip in collections and a cloud of negativity.

“Give the movie some air to breathe,” Vishal remarked on stage. “When reviews especially from random YouTube channels, flood social media immediately after the first show, it kills the word-of-mouth organically meant to build over time. These reactions have started affecting collections drastically.”

This comes in the wake of the Madras High Court’s recent dismissal of a similar plea made by a group of producers, who sought legal intervention to curtail such immediate post-show recordings. With the judiciary stepping back, Vishal is now making a direct appeal to theatre owners and exhibitors to take voluntary action.

The actor believes that suspending filmed reviews for just the first three days could help the audience discover films on their own and offer filmmakers a fairer window to succeed.

While this debate continues to split opinions in the industry and among the audience, Vishal’s call could spark fresh conversations about the evolving ecosystem of film reception in the digital age.
