Actress Kaniha has exited the serial Ethirneechal, and various speculations are circulating about the reason for her departure.
Ethirneechal airs during prime time on Sun TV. Following the success of its first season, the second season is currently underway. In the first season, actor Marimuthu’s character was hugely popular with the audience, but after his sudden death, the production faced a few months of difficulty.
Later, actor and writer Vel Ramamurthy took over the role of Aadhi Gunasekaran, with actress Kaniha playing his wife. Now, with the second season running at full pace, rumors began spreading in recent days that Kaniha had left the show.
When we checked with sources close to the production, they confirmed that Kaniha has indeed left. We also enquired about the reason for her exit. According to them, it was due to “personal reasons” and that Kaniha herself had expressed her wish to leave, asking the makers to find another actress for her role. That is why they had written scenes showing her character being admitted to the hospital. It is still unclear whether another actress will replace her or if the character will be written out.
However, some others suggest a different reason: “Kaniha is someone who has acted as a heroine in films. After many years, she entered television, expecting her role to carry significant importance in the serial. But even in the first season, the importance given to the Gunasekaran character was not given to hers, and she felt disappointed. In this season too, she reportedly felt that more importance was given to other characters instead of hers. That’s why she made this decision.”
Whether the character of Easwari, played by Kaniha, will be recast or concluded will be known in the coming days.
