“My Love for Kannada Is Genuine” – Kamal Haasan Issues Heartfelt Clarification Amidst Misunderstanding

In a sincere and moving letter addressed to Mr. Narasimhalu, President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, legendary actor Kamal Haasan whose Thug Life is going through a tough situation of release in Karnataka, has offered his heartfelt clarification following the controversy surrounding his remarks at the Thug Life audio launch.

Haasan, a towering figure in Indian cinema known for his progressive views and deep respect for linguistic and cultural diversity, expressed regret that his statements — intended to convey affection and unity — were misunderstood. He reiterated that his words were never meant to demean the Kannada language or its rich legacy, but rather to emphasize familial bonding across linguistic lines.

“Like Tamil, Kannada has a proud literary and cultural tradition that I have long admired,” Kamal wrote. “My love for the language is genuine, and I have great respect for the love that Kannadigas have for their mother tongue.”

Haasan also acknowledged the presence of Shivanna (Shiva Rajkumar) at the event, emphasizing that his bond with the Rajkumar family is built on mutual love and deep respect. He expressed sincere regret that Shivanna had to face discomfort due to this incident but hoped that their bond would only grow stronger.

Kamal Haasan’s statement reaffirms his unwavering stand on linguistic equality and cultural harmony. He emphasized that cinema must act as a bridge, not a barrier, between people of different regions.

“Cinema is a universal language that knows only love and bonding,” he noted. “It must remain a bridge between people, never a wall that divides them.”

As Thug Life gears up for its theatrical release, Haasan’s heartfelt note seeks to reaffirm unity, mutual respect, and the power of art to bring people together.
