Rohini Cinemas Nikilesh Surya Declares Good Bad Ugly as 2025 Topper
In a notable exchange within the exhibition circuit, Rohini Cinemas’ owner Nikilesh Surya issued a detailed clarification on the year’s box-office trends, positioning Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly as the highest-performing title of 2024 at his theatre.
The conversation began after the owner of Vasu Cinemas stated that Soori’s Maaman had emerged as their leading grosser and added that Vijay-led films remain the strongest theatrical pull. While acknowledging the regional variations, Nikilesh Surya offered a broader and more data-centric perspective on the industry’s performance this year.
According to Surya, 2024 has delivered the best average footfalls of the last decade across Rohini Cinemas. He attributed this growth not only to big-star releases but also to a consistent run of small and medium-budget Tamil films, complemented by successful titles from other regional industries.
“Box-office behaviour varies significantly between territories,” he explained, noting that each region reflects its own audience composition and consumption pattern. In the case of Rohini Cinemas, Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly remains the clear chart-topper, reinforcing its strong commercial reception within their market.
The exchange underscores an important truth within Tamil Nadu’s exhibition landscape: no single narrative captures the entire box-office story, and regional dynamics continue to shape the performance of films across the state.
