Nenjam Marappathillai Movie Review

To start off with, we would say that Nenjam Marapathillai is a “Smart Plan gone wrong’. Just imagine, what could have been the mindset of Selvaraghavan while ideating the concept of NMP. A very low budget film with limited locations and star-cast followed by big names in the technical department, who will compromise the remuneration… However, the names like Selvaraghavan-SJ Suryah-Yuvan Shankar Raja would definitely have a big impact among audience and trade circle. Everything was fine and perfect, until the financial issues left the production house in trouble. Finally, with the film hitting screens this morning after a pending phase of 4 years, we find it more disappointing.

Selvaraghavan actually attempted this as a sort of comeback to ensure that the traders can lay their bet on his movies. Nonetheless, to witness the show now after a disastrous movie like NGK, it furthermore creates resentment. Yes, there are few cohorts that comes up with a statement citing that the film will be celebrated after 10 years. P.S. Don’t say that.

If by any chance you’ve a second thought to watch the film, then here’s our suggestion. Just watch the three trailers followed by Sneak peek and the video song that are released so far. To be honest, these are the only shots that are appreciable and rest of them are completely disappointing. There’s no time for the audience to crack down the semiotics of Jesus crucifixion and Regina’s character. We still don’t get the point. It looks like Selvaraghavan got in touch with the ‘Irandam Ulagam’ CG team to make up for the loss and do some works as compensation. We can’t believe it’s Aravind Krishna’s work of cinematography. While those blue, green and red tints were a small part of his erstwhile movies, he completely banks himself on these patterns.

The performance of SJ Suryah, Regina Cassandra and Nandita Swetha is commendable. Their performances keep the ship from sinking. The story is too outdated and there’s no surprise, twist or suspense. Yuvan Shankar Raja keeps repeating the same music over and again in BGM.

On the whole, Nenjam Marapathillai doesn’t live up to the expectations and it fails to impress us.
