Telugu Film Chamber Refutes Theatre Shutdown Speculation
The Telugu Film Chamber has issued a statement to clarify widespread rumors about theatre shutdowns in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, addressing concerns and outlining future steps.
In a recent meeting, Mr. K.L. Damodar Prasad, Secretary of the Telugu Film Chamber, dismissed claims of theatre closures starting June 1st, calling them baseless. “We held discussions with key producers, exhibitors, and distributors from both states to address the challenges facing theatres. No decision to shut down theatres has been made,” he stated.
The Chamber announced plans for an Executive Committee meeting on May 30th to form a joint committee of producers, distributors, and exhibitors. This group will work within a set timeline to resolve ongoing issues in the industry.
Urging the public and media to rely solely on official statements, Mr. Prasad emphasized, “Unverified reports are causing unnecessary panic. We ask everyone to refrain from spreading rumors.” He also clarified that the rumored closures are not linked to any specific film, and the industry is focused on finding constructive solutions.
The Chamber expressed openness to engaging with the government if needed, as it has done previously, and highlighted the industry’s ability to resolve its challenges internally. “The film industry has always stood on its own,” Mr. Prasad added.
The meeting saw participation from prominent figures, including Prasanna Kumar, Sridhar, Sudhakar Reddy, Shiva Prasad Rao, Sunil Narang, Anupam Reddy, Bharat Chowdary, T.S. Ram Prasad, C. Kalyan, Muthyala Ramadas, M. Sudhakar, and others.
