Following the mixed response to Thug Life, director Mani Ratnam is reportedly facing delays with some of his upcoming star-driven projects. The much-talked-about film tentatively titled STR 49, planned with Silambarasan TR and Rukmini Vasanth, now appears to be on pause — with the actor yet to respond actively post the film’s release.

Discussions with Superstar Rajinikanth, which began during the filming of Thug Life, also seem to have quieted down without clear progression.

With these developments, Mani Ratnam is expected to shift gears towards a teenage love story with newcomers in the lead — a space where he has consistently delivered memorable films. This move echoes his creative reset after films like Raavanan and Kadal, when he returned strongly with OK Kanmani.
