Analysis
The basic storyline of Carmeni Selvam vividly resonates with the realities that most of middle class families would have gone through. The human urge for luxury and getting into debts. To pay for another debt, getting into another debt – This realities have been perfectly showcased in this movie. The first half has moments that are catchy, and could have actually been trimmed a bit. The film’s second half has dramatic moments that ends well with a proper solution.
Performances
Samuthirakani, as usual, takes a cakewalk with this protagonist role. His ability to shift the mannerisms in different shades is totally appreciable. Lakshmi Priya is so genuine with her performance. Gautham Vasudev Menon’s role is crisp and neat. Abhinaya gains our appreciation with her limited presence.
Technical aspects
Yuvaraj Dakshan’s cinematography is laudable. He has captured the moments without any exaggeration or superficial colours. Musical score by Ramanujam MK is good with BGM. It adds more value to the film’s emotional impact. Editing could have been slightly better.
Overall, Carmeni Selvam has a dramatic approach that definitely has ingredients to impress the universal crowds.
