Two best things that keep you adhered to the screens even during the slightest sluggish moments – Emotional impact and performance. Director Sasi movies have spoken well of its significance more because of characterizations and its emotions rather than the realms of star values. It’s an intriguing essence in all his movies and Pichaikkaran is ample of such evidence.

The plot revolves around Vijay Antony, only heir to the billion worth property owned by his mother, an industrialist. While things happen to be in serenity, everything is collapsed when his mother is hit by an accident in industry pushing her into coma. Even the severe treatments from the best doctors don’t give ameliorations and it’s when a hermit occurs. He places a challenge to the protagonist and when accomplished, things would turn happier as before.

Efficiently written script that holds emotions as the major core and what keeps the show proceeding at the right appeal is Vijay Antony’s ability to underplay. Even the scenes that could have been exaggerated by the mass heroes is very well played by Vijay Antony, particularly the marriage hall scene before intermission. Even the transformation scene, where the clock ticks exactly 11 on final day is simply delivered instead of what could have been a thundering brass and beats in the BGM. Vijay Antony tries to keep the situations so simple and this makes the characterisations stronger. Satna Titus has been offered a role of girl with compassion and someone who cannot give up anything easily.

The moments, where she can’t resist falling in love with her man in spite of knowing his pathetic condition is beautiful… Others in the cast have done an impeccable performance and the one you see rendering the best dialogues is really at his best. The apt illustration goes with his phone call with RJ, where he tries to give a solution for an end to poverty wins the thundering applause.

The running length with 130 minutes has the best moments and there is no point, where we feel the lagging drama. Although, there are slight slow sequences in the second half, they don’t make it feel though, such are the dialogues. The last 20 minutes of this film interwoven with extreme emotions and some raciness offers a wholesome experience. The background score by Vijay Antony is appreciable and song being used with montages and not any dream sequences keep the screenplay at right pace.

Totting up on whole, Pichaikkaran is an emotional drama that has a heart-touching message. Although, you might feel the traces of Superstar Rajnikanth’s Arunachalam and Prabhu Deva’s Alli Thandha Vaanam, which had similar themes, this one has its own treatment that will surely offer a satisfied experience to universal audiences. By the end, when we get to know it’s a film based on real life inspiration, it adds more intensity to our experience.
