Paayum Puli is all about a cop who performs undercover operation to identify the people behind the chain death of business men in the city and how he eradicates them, how does it impacts his family and who is the main person behind these murders has shown in the film. It is one among thousand cop stories in Kolllywood.

Vishal as ACP Jeyasheelan, perfect fit to the role as a cop with great physique and commendable body language.Make up could have been little better. He has improved a lot in dancing. Actions sequence are cake walk for this tall man. This is his second film with Suseenthiran after Pandianadu. Overall, he has done his job with ease.

Kajal Aggarwal as Sowmya, Vishal’s lady love. She looks beautiful and glamorous especially in songs. Good acting and dancing. Like a typical heroine she just got countable scenes in the film, wondering where she disappears in the second half after ’Silukku marame’ song. Soori as Vishal’s friend, couple of comedy scenes are laughable.

Samuthirakani scores in this film. As brother of Vishal and a politician he did really well with simple, neat dialogue delivery and powerful looks. His conversation with dad, the gunfire sequence and the climax fight are few notable scenes. Vishals’ dad character is a good pick. Very matured acting by him.Good to see Anandaraj after a long time. He plays a police officer role.

D.Imman is the music composer. Back ground music is good while songs are just average. Only song which stays in mind is the opening song ‘Yaar Antha Muyalkutty…’., pictured well. ‘Mohini song’ and ‘Siluku Marame..’ folk song are treat to watch with good choreography. Almost all the song placements are poor, stays out from the script. Paayum puli theme is good.

Velraj’s cinematography is apt, he even acted in a cameo role. Lighting should be appreciated, especially in the gunfire action sequence. Anthony is the editor; film is crisp 2.15 hours which is definitely a major plus. Art direction stand out. Stunt choreography is superb. Climax fight is a good example.

Suseenthiran has written and directed the film. He is one among the quality directors we have in Tamil. His last outing Jeeva was an unforgettable experience, so the expectations are high for this film. Screenplay has nothing new to offer. Dialogues falls flat for this weak content.

Few highlights of the film are – ‘Yaar antha muyal kutty…’ song placement/situation and lyrics, interval twist, gunfire action sequence, climax fight, Samuthirakani’s performance.First half has nothing to offer. Last 20 minutes of the film stands out in the whole movie and made the film a one time watchable!
