Director Ram, also known as Ram Subramaniam, is an Indian filmmaker and actor who primarily works in Tamil cinema. Born on October 11, 1974, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, he pursued his education at American College, Madurai, and Madras Christian College, where he studied Tamil literature.
Ram started his career assisting Rajkumar Santoshi in Hindi films like Pukar (2000) and Lajja (2001). He later worked under Balu Mahendra, whom he considers his mentor. His directorial debut, Kattradhu Thamizh (2007), received critical acclaim. His second film, Thanga Meengal (2013), won three National Film Awards. He continued his success with Taramani (2017), Peranbu (2018), Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai (2024), and Parandhu Po (2025), with several of his films premiering at International Film Festival Rotterdam.
Ram is known for his unique storytelling and thought-provoking themes, making him an influential figure in Tamil cinema. His contributions have also inspired a new generation of filmmakers
