Raja Karuppasamy

Raja Karuppasamy is an Indian filmmaker who works in Tamil cinema. He is from Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, and moved to Chennai in 2016 to study filmmaking at Loyola College. Before directing features, he worked in journalism and media, which shaped his interest in observing people and everyday behaviour. His filmmaking is rooted in ordinary lives rather than spectacle. He favours grounded dialogue, neighbourhood detail and characters who are allowed to sit with grief instead of being judged. The tone is often gentle and observational, closer to healing than to blame, with an interest in how people manage private pain in public spaces.
