Siddharth
Siddharth Suryanarayan, popularly known as Siddharth, is a versatile and talented Indian actor who has worked in various languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and English. He is also a successful film producer, screenwriter and playback singer, who has won several awards and accolades for his work in the entertainment industry.
Siddharth was born on 17 April 1979 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He completed his schooling from D.A.V. Boys Senior Secondary School in Chennai and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Delhi. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from Kirori Mal College, New Delhi and later pursued his MBA from S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai. He also excelled in debating and public speaking, winning the CNBC Manager of the year award in 1999.
Siddharth started his career as an assistant director to the legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam, working on films like Kannathil Muthamittal and Aayutha Ezhuthu. He made his acting debut in 2003 with the Tamil film Boys, directed by S. Shankar, where he played one of the five teenage protagonists. The film was a commercial success and launched Siddharth’s career as a leading actor. He then appeared in Mani Ratnam’s Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004), where he played a student leader opposite Madhavan and Suriya.
Siddharth made his Telugu debut with Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (2005), directed by Prabhu Deva, where he played a rich NRI who falls in love with a village girl, played by Trisha. The film was a blockbuster hit and earned Siddharth his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. He then starred in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti (2006), where he played an idealistic filmmaker who joins a group of rebellious friends to fight against corruption. The film was a critical and commercial success and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the BAFTA Awards.
Siddharth has also produced some of his own films, such as Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi (2012), Jil Jung Juk (2016) and Shaitan Ka Bachcha (2020). He has also lent his voice to several songs, such as “Everybody” and “Edhalo Epudo” from Chukkallo Chandrudu (2006), “Adada Adada” from Santosh Subramaniam (2008), “Oy Oy” from Oy! (2009), “Prathi Dinam” from Baava (2010) and “Azhagendral” from Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru (2013).
Siddharth is one of the most popular and respected actors in Indian cinema, who has shown his versatility and talent across different genres and languages. He is also known for his social activism and humanitarian work, supporting causes such as education, environment, women’s rights and disaster relief.
