Tamil Film Journalists Association Deepavali Magazine Launch held in grandeur
The Tamil Film Journalists Association 2025 Deepavali Special Magazine Launch was held grandly, as usual, at Prasad Lab, Chennai. Honourable Minister C. V. Ganesan (Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development), Poochi S. Murugan (Chairman, Tamil Nadu Housing Board; Vice President, South Indian Artistes’ Association), N. Elangovan(Assistant Commissioner of Police, Avadi), National Award-winning actor M. S. Bhaskar, Actress Rekha, and Producer K. Sampath Kumar (S K Pictures) graced the occasion. The TMJA office bearers and members, along with their families, participated in the event with great joy.
Honourable Minister C. V. Ganesan speech
“My thanks and respects to our Hon’ble Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. My brother Poochi Murugan insisted that I should attend this event, and I hold great respect for him. He has earned a special place in our Chief Minister’s heart — a noble soul indeed. Even I seek his permission before visiting the Secretariat or meeting our party leader. That’s the level of responsibility and trust he holds. He has a deep affection for this Journalists Association.
Success in life comes only when there is competition — but it must be healthy competition. Armstrong entered history because he was courageous enough to step on the moon first. To advance in life, one must have courage, focus, and hard work — those qualities make a person successful.” He also emphasized the importance of respecting family members and then fondly shared humorous childhood Deepavali memories with the audience.
Poochi S. Murugan said: “The association president Kavitha always calls me only when it concerns the welfare of cinema journalists. I’ll continue to extend whatever help I can to the TMJA.
Do you know how I got the name Poochi Murugan? It came from a stage play I acted in! I even received the Kalaimamani award for my theatre work,” he said enthusiastically.
He further urged that, as the Vice President of the Nadigar Sangam, speakers on stage should be mindful when speaking about actors, and assured that the TMJA’s requests would be taken up and addressed.
Other Chief Guests Speech
Assistant Commissioner Na. Elangovan delivered his speech in fluent, elegant Tamil.
He confidently spoke about his professional experiences and stage speaking skills. The icon went on to add humorous touch stating, “Do you know who invented the cellphone?” leaving the hall in laughter. He also spoke meaningfully about how mobile phones impact people’s lives and discussed compassion, kindness, and the true spirit of Deepavali.
Actor M. S. Bhaskar shared insights from his cinema journey and spoke about the influence journalists and publications have had on his career. He stressed the need to avoid alcoholism and fondly remembered his friendship with former Dina Thanthi journalist Gangadharan, who used to write positively about him.
Actress Rekha said, “I’ve portrayed many good characters in films. What brings back memories of those roles are the photos and articles published about them in magazines.
Though YouTube and social media have taken over now, can we ever forget the joy of seeing our photos and stories in Ananda Vikatan, Rani, Kumudam, Dina Thanthi, or Dina Malar? I treasure those clippings like jewels. Everyone should celebrate this Deepavali joyfully,” she said. She also shared interesting behind-the-scenes memories from the Punnagai Mannan film, especially about the iconic kiss scene, recalling how young and nervous she was, fearing her father’s reaction.
President S. Kavitha appealed for government support for cinema journalists and expressed her gratitude to all advertisers who supported the Deepavali edition. The members of TMJA who contributed on articles and ads were also honoured.
