Errick Elavia Promoting Rights and Awareness Through Education

Zonta International District 25 Governor Errick Elavia is a crusader fighting for the rights of girls and women across the globe. He and other Zontians has encouraged women and girls to be self-reliant with education and income and to speak out, as silence encourages violence.

Errick has been working with children throughout his educational career when he joined as a teacher in 1997 at the Lady Engineer High School in Mumbai, was appointed as Vice-Principal in 2001, Acting Headmaster in 2009, and later Principal in 2010.

His work with the Zonta Club of Bombay 1 began in 2008. Where he actively campaigned for equal education and emphasized the importance of self-reliance through education. Later he was made Vice Area Director from 2016 to 2018. As the Vice Area Director, he carried out his work across India and the South Asian region. He was constantly creating awareness about education and the importance of the basic level of education.

Errick served as the Lieutenant Governor of District 25 Zonta International from 2018 to 2020. In the history of Zonta International, he was made the first Male Governor of District 25 for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. In 2018 he had the privilege to meet and interact with the Empress of Japan at the Zonta convention in Yokohama, Japan. In January 2021 he was elected the Secretary of Rotary Club of Mumbai Cuffe Parade.

His contribution to education is largely involved in training students for dramatics, elocution and debate. He is a member of the Gujarati and English Theatre group performing plays in India and abroad. He is also a versatile actor in films. He was appointed examiner by the United Schools Organization of India (New Delhi) for the UNO exam. He organizes international tours to Europe and Australia, New Zealand during summer vacation. He spearheaded the No Tobacco Movement in South Mumbai and helped close down shops near the school selling gutkha and cigarettes. He took students for training in the space programme NASA (USA) in 2015. He also an active member of the Red Cross Society.

Errick Elavia was awarded by the Saarathi an NGO based in JODHPUR (Rajasthan) for campaigning against the Prevention of Child Marriage in association with ZONTA CLUB of Bombay 1 and was recognized by the Junior Red Cross Maharashtra State for the sterling services rendered for Junior Red Cross in February 2016. He received an award and appreciation certificate from Tata Power for Energy Conservation in the year 2010. These are a few of the many awards he has received for work towards education and promoting gender equality through education. Currently, he has around 50 and more awards appreciating his work. He believes in trust and delegates the work to the teachers. He motivates and instils self-confidence in them.

Errick was awarded one of the most prestigious awards, as one of the 50 most Influential Principal’s in India, presented by the Eldrok Education foundation.
Finally, he believes and still pushes for education, and through education comes independence and upliftment of each other.” I believe every child is unique and gifted. I get the best out of the child, and the child will give the best. Even at the height of the pandemic, Zonta Foundation was supporting and continues to support many school children with the new norm of attending school. In the 21st Century, Women have excelled in varied fields and are aware of their Rights, through proper education”.
