Rom-Coms are always a special delight for the youth audiences. It’s not very often, we do have movies of these genre arriving in the cinema halls. Significantly, director Hariharan A brings out a cool-urban Rom-Com that comprises a star-cast of handsome hero and beautiful heroines. The film features Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan, Avantika Mishra and Teju Ashwini in the lead roles with Pugazh, and Swaminathan appearing as comedians.

The story opens with a handsome good-looking Radio Jockey (Ashwin Kumar) meeting the beautiful writer (Avantika Mishra) at a matchmaking ceremony. Both their families have fixed this occasion, and when everything seems to be going smooth between the soon-to-be-couple, the protagonist opens up on his ex-lover, which instils the inquisitiveness in Avantika to meet her. With no options left, Ashwin sets up a girl pretending to be his ex-lover, and what unfolds next is a series of fun-filled and emotional moments laced together.

There’s always a specialty in Rom-Com. If it comes very well packaged with good characterizations, stellar performances, and top-notch music and cinematography, then it gets ticked among all the audiences. When it comes to Enna Solla Pogirai, the characterizations are very well written, which has helped a lot for the actors to deliver commendable performances. Ashwin Kumar looks inexpressive in few scenes though, but some of his episodes are worthy of appreciations. Say for instance, the Lift sequence is really good. As with both Avantika and Teju Ashwini, they have delivered a laudable performance. Now getting on with Rom-Com concept, many filmmakers have mistaken this genre, and try to inject in unwanted comedy sequences. To be honest, the film would have worked out a lot if all the so-called hilarious scenes were deleted. In fact, the first half lacks so much of engrossment due to this factor. If the director had tried to write this film without these moments, it would have intensified the entire movie. When it comes to second half, the screenplay gets engaging and entertaining. Although the climax is predictable, this writing keeps us engrossed. The cinematography by Richard is the biggest positive element in this film, and the song ‘Unakaaga Than Uyir Vaazhgiraen’ is a cherry-pick from Vivek-Mervin duo, whereas the other songs are just ordinary.

Enna Solla Pogirai is a decent romantic entertainer that would have worked a magical stroke if the first hour was written convincingly. Nonetheless, the overall experience is pretty good.
