Making a biopic is the biggest of all challenges that a filmmaker would face right from the process of ideation begins. Especially, when it’s about a film personality, it definitely needs much more scrutinizing efforts. In this aspect, filmmaker Nag Ashwin has executed a brilliant writing with the treatment of screening remaining light and slow, yet engrossing. Keerthy Suresh reprises the real life actress Late Savithri in this film ‘Nadigaiyar Thilagam’.

The film’s synopsis isn’t something new as most of us know the life of Savithri. A girl child loses her father at the age of 2 and her maternal uncle desires getting into stage acting. She happens to be a great fan of actor Gemini Ganesan and gets into films. Her fascination for Ganesan is beyond any rational thinking and marries him. But sooner, their picture perfect life starts diminishing into darker note. Samantha plays an investigative journalist, an introvert, who aspires to write a story about her.

No words! Keerthy Suresh leaves us speechless with her remarkable performance. This isn’t going to be pick of just one sequence or more, but she has excelled in every scene. The greatest highlight among her stellar performances would be the final 30 minutes. The way she bursts out emotionally surprises us if it’s the same Keerthy Suresh that we have seen in stereotypical commercial roles so far. Samantha on her part has given her best. Her role remains feeble, but grows stronger towards the end. Vijay Devarakonda is perfect with his role adding charm as refresher to this emotional plot. Dulquer Salmaan is amazing with his performance and looks, but gradually as his characterization starts moving into grey shade, we try to have an adverse condition.

Others in the cast have given into their best performance, which includes Rajendra Prasad, Mohan Babu, etc. The film has light drawbacks for it involves majorly Telugu backdrops. Had Nag Ashwin tried involving few more Tamil actors’ reprisal, it would have been more to the tastes of regional audiences, but it isn’t a major flaw.

Mickey J Meyer proves to be a genius with songs and background score. Cinematography in three different shades is a major plus and it’s a pillar to the entire film.

Overall, Nadigaiyar Thilagam is a movie that encompasses the ups and downs of a reigning queen, who still remains immortal in our hearts.
