Director Thalapathy Prabhu’s debut film Pothuvaga En Manasu Thangam is a run-of-the-mill flick that holds a simple and routine village feuds as premise. But then, there are few elements that have the buffs of commercial film lovers engrossed. The film featuring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Nivetha Pethuraj, Parthiepan and Soori in lead roles.

A plot with simple tale of feuds between two villages, where Udhayanidhi Stalin wants his villagers to be happy. Then, Parthiepan from the other village keeps the vengeance buried to retaliate them, but pretends to be a good hearted person. Sooner Udhayanidhi Stalin realizes the evil intentions of Parthiepan and tries to curb it down. On the other end, Parthiepan gets to know that his daughter (Nivetha Pethuraj) and Udhayanidhi Stalin are in love, thereby tries to ruin it.

Parthiepan becomes the showstopper here for his hilarious act with some negative shades.

Udhayanidhi Stalin hasn’t tried anything different and it’s routine commercial entertainer that Tamil cinema has seen for ages. But his efforts to improvise on performance are really appreciable. Nivetha Pethuraj delivers what is needed from her. Nice to see a Tamil speaking girl play this role rather than a North Indian ones being dubbed. Parthiepan becomes the showstopper here for his hilarious act with some negative shades. On the other end, Soori makes up for a tremendous humour here.

D Imman comes up with couple of good numbers, which gets a visual treat from Balasubramaniam. The background score too appeals best in many places.

If you’re getting on for the flip side, the first half has some slower, but the director tries to make up for the momentum by second hour. The movie major plus is the scenes involving Parthiepan and Soori. This kind of genre will definitely impress the audiences from sub-urban and rural zones. Maybe, it’s not a piece of cake for the multiplex audiences or perhaps with the word of mouth that it’s a good time pass movie; this could get ticked here as well.
