The Greatest Of All Time Movie Review

Director Venkat Prabhu’s collaboration with Actor Vijay created a huge sensation, and especially the concept of ‘De-Ageing’ using the AI technology had turned to be an additional attraction. The film’s ensemble star-cast comprising Prabhu Deva, Prashanth, Sneha, Meenkashi Chaudhary, Laila, and lots more cameos, turned to be the most exciting moment for the fans.

Gandhi (Vijay) serves as a hostage negotiator, field operative, and intelligence agent for the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS). Following years of dedicated service, he is summoned for a pivotal mission that propels him into a perilous confrontation with his own history.

Story, Screenplay and Dialogues:

The film’s story might be little time-worn, as we have come across many movies including S.A. Chandrasekar’s yesteryear hit movie with Captain Vijayakanth, where the father, a honest cop-son feud created by villain leads to severe issues. The film faintly reminiscences of this tale, but with a different treatment of twists and turns. When it comes to screenplay, the runtime of 3 hours becomes a major constraint. To keep this as a perfect racy engaging thriller, the film’s narrative should have been limited to not more than 150 minutes. So this becomes a major drawback of the film. The first half has the story set in three different countries – India, Bangkok and Russia, for no reason as it adds no value to the screenplay. The interval twist is appreciable, but to see Vijay as an antagonist as cruel man harming all doesn’t suit his image. The twists and turns during last 30 mins is okay. Although the climax scene is larger-than-life, it is tailor-made for Vijay fans.

Performance:

Actor Vijay nails it down with his impeccable performance, and has done what is required for his respective character. Sneha yet again proves that she is a classic actress. Prashanth and Prabhu Deva don’t add more value to the film, and they are seen for namesake star-cast. Actor Mohan’s antagonistic act doesn’t impress us. Jayaram, Premgi Amaran, Laila, Ajmal and others are okay. The cameos of Sivakarthikeyan and Trisha are surprise treat for the audience.

Music, CG and Cinematography:

Yuvan’s BGM is magical, especially the remix of ‘Sorgamae Endraalum’ composed by Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja is commendable. However, this high-octane thriller doesn’t demand for songs, except ‘Whistle Podu’. The songs ‘Spark’ and ‘Matta’ are unwanted, though the latter has some fan moments for Vijay-Trisha followers. The CG work is totally disappointing, and it ruins the impact of De-aging works as well. Director Atlee had depicted the father-son avatars of Vijay in Mersal and Bigil with excellence, without much AI works, and VP fails to nail it perfectly.

High Points in the Movie!

The Interval Action Sequence
Yogi Babu Episode
Last 20 minutes
Whistle Podu song
Fun moments of Vijay-Prashanth-Prabhu Deva and Sneha.

Low Points:

Just imagine! These scenes sum up for not more than one hour in the film, which has a run time of 3 hours. The rest of the scenes are totally unimpressive.

On the final note, it’s producers, who will have to make sure that the final output of the film is fine and engrossing rather than merely looking into the commercial aspects of Theatrical and Non-Theatrical Business.
