Diary Movie Review

Actor Arulnithi’s ‘Diary’, directed by Innasi Pandian, produced by Five Star Studios created impeccable hype with its visual promos. Let us check out how well the film is engrossing?

A trainee sub-inspector (Arulnithi) visits Ooty to investigate an unsolved murder case pending for 16 years as a part of his training. As the investigation gets intense, we see a bus starting from Ooty to Coimbatore midnight. The bus is moving through the same route, where many bizarre accidents have occurred exactly at 13th Hairpin bend in the past. While there are burglars, who have killed a couple for jewelry, a couple who have eloped to get married, a family, a college girl, etc, few among them notice something unusual in the bus, and it’s same with the protagonist, who urged by situations hop on the bus.

During one particular in the second half, we get to see both Arulnithi and Pavithra are seen discussing about a real life shocking incident that has more similarity to what the former witnessed previous night. It’s clearly evident that the director is inspired by that particular event (We don’t want to reveal it for the spoiler factor) to make this movie. But the way, he has tried encompassing various characters, and drawing the protagonist into the premise with a mysterious link from the past is neatly done.

The first hour keeps us engrossed as the story keeps moving out of our prediction zone. Especially, the interval twist is worthy of appreciations. The second hour too doesn’t disappoint you as the tale gets interesting with mysteries getting resolved. The climax twist is yet another surprise indeed. If you’re looking out for the flip side, there isn’t anything to mention. Since the main plot of the story is about one incident, audience might not feel the other portions interesting, but then Innasi tries to cover them up with humour through the characterization of Shah Raa.

As with performances, there isn’t much for the actors to perform more, but they have done a decent job. On the technical front, it’s cinematography that actually carries major portions of the film on its shoulder. Editing in few places are really appreciable.

On the whole, Diary is a neat attempt, and it has moments that will surprise and engross you. Go watch it without any expectations, and you’ll like the show.
