Too many to choose – the film buffs are wedged into the critical situation to choose when it comes about ‘Horror-Comedy’. There were times, we rushed to grab the Korean flicks for this treat as they were original manufacturers of this hybrid versioned ‘Genre’, when Hollywood was going through the phase of ‘Spine-chilling horror’ tales. Analysis apart! Sundar C’s production ‘Hello Naan Pei Pesuren’ is yet another film that comes on the lines of ‘Yaamirukka Bayamey’. The film ‘Hello Naan Pei Pesuren’ is directed by debutant Bhaskar and is produced by Avni Cinemax starring Vaibhav and Aishwarya Rajesh in lead roles with an ensemble star-cast of VTV Ganesh, Karunakaran, Singapore Deepan and few others.
Vaibhav is a crooked chap in town known for his petty thefts. He manages to impress a beautiful girl (Aishwarya Rajesh) and indeed impresses her elder brother (VTV Ganesh), by showing his skilled ‘Saavu Kuthu’ (The traditional dance of funeral in Tamil Nadu). As it happens, he steals a phone from the girl (Oviya), who meets an accident in front of him. The same night, he has the ghost haunting his home and sooner, his brother in laws and ladylove are brought in the drama of horror, mystery and fun.
It looks like Sundar C was keenly looking out to produce a film similar to his genre ‘Aranmanai’, but with a less dose of violence and vengeance. This is indeed a fun-filled horror that has some interesting moments too. While Sundar C has already replicated the best Hollywood horror in Indianized style, Bhaskar has picked ‘Insidious’ reference in few places. But we have to appreciate his skill in getting it rightly punched with humour. Vaibhav has tried something with humour and yes it works out. Aishwarya Rajesh has a minimal role and yes, she is somewhat better with her performance. VTV Ganesh and Singapore Deepan offer the best laughter riot towards the second half. Karunakaran being linked to the main plot is a surprise with humour.
Siddarth Vipin has tried to impress the commercial music lovers with couple of songs. The one crooned by Vijay Sethupathi is enjoyable and if promoted with the making video, it could bring some best means to pull additional crowd.
Overall, Hello Naan Pei Pesuren is a mindless horror-comedy that hardly cares about logic, but instantly lets you bark into uproarious laughter at places.
