Laal Singh Chaddha Movie Review

The movie traverses through the chronological journey of Laal Singh Chaddha from his infancy to the adulthood, where he encounters various people, who shape his life with their influences, among which his childhood sweetheart Rupa (Kareena Kapoor) has been his only boon and bane.

Aamir Khan, far-famed for his intense dedication and sheer passion towards his onscreen characters delivers a laudable performance in this movie… Perhaps, we could find the faint traces of his acting from PK, but the emotional depth of the story makes it fade away. There are few scenes, where he just uplifts our emotions and get your eyes moistened too. In particular, the war scene leaves you amazed with the way; he emotes through the eyes and soul of his characterization. Kareena Kapoor’s character is far different from the original version of ‘Forrest Gump’. The makers try to add more scope to her role, which has its plus and minus. Especially, her scenes in the second half make the drama slower. Naga Chaitanya in his special role is outstanding. Shahrukh Khan’s small cameo with the prosthetic presence is a special surprise. Mona Singh’s performance is commendable too.

For the ones, who have watched the original version ‘Forrest Gump’, they might not feel this to be an extraordinary work. This is purely due to the changes made by the writing team. Well, the way, it has been Indianized with the special events in the History of India is outstanding. However, few characters have been altered, which has pros and cons. In the original version, Forrest Gump comes across various characters, who are good, bad and grey. But in this remake version, we see almost all the characters are too good, and Laal Singh as the alchemist in making their lives so heavenly. After a certain extent, it becomes repeated, which becomes a reason behind some tediousness… Nonetheless, it doesn’t turn out to be a major minus. The songs by Pritam and the cinematography are the absolute emblazonment to this movie.

On the whole, Laal Singh Chaddha has lots of beautiful and heart-wrenching moments. It’s all about a man’s effortless attempt in coming terms with grief, which has been neatly made by director Advait and well performed by Aamir Khan.
