The Legend Movie Review

Few movies raise the bar of expectations for their brand value and there are other sectors of movies, which are purely for having fun. It’s been evident even with the reigning stars, which started to experience such moments during the decline of their careers. But by the end of the day, a movie is made with earnest efforts, sincere teamwork, and the insatiable dedication of every single artiste and technician. Let us check out how well Legend Saravanan’s debut movie ‘The Legend’ works out.

The story looks more like a distant relative to Superstar Rajinikanth’s Sivaji – The Boss. The only difference here is our protagonist Legend Saravanan (played by Arul Saravanan) wants to create a medicine that will wipe out the hazardous diabetic disease from every single patient. However, his earnest attempts get devastated by a bunch of miscreants. How the protagonist battles the odds and accomplishes his mission forms the crux of the story.

The first and foremost thing that we notice in ‘The Legend’ is that the technicians wanted to make use of this project as a showreel to bounce back again and step into the mainstream. Filmmakers JD-Jerry duo, the leading ad filmmakers have proved their decent directorial strokes in movies like Ajith Kumar-Vikram starrer “Ullasam” and “Whistle” (A remake of the Hollywood movie – I Know What You Did Last Summer). Yes, when it comes to the directorial part, they have tried proving themselves by attempting commercial elements. However, it works out only to a certain extent for the reason that the story is too outdated and timeworn. A hero as the savior of mankind is almost on the verge of extinction, where even the leading mainstream heroes are struggling to survive. During this juncture, a movie like this has the very least chance to engross the audience. However, their making style deserves special mention. The next absolute attention-stealer is music director Harris Jayaraj. Almost all the songs from the album managed to top the charts, and the cinematography retains its value. To be precise, the songs alone stop the audience from getting bored and annoyed even before the intermission.

Looking out for the minus, it’s the lead actor himself. He hardly emotes to any given situation, and it’s really disappointing to see him not showing any involvement. Most of his dialogues are like advertisements involving close-up shots and statements like ‘My Life is for the betterment of people. The other actors have done their portions well. The dance performances by all the actresses are good. It’s a special delight for the fans of Late actor Vivek as we get to see the final glimpse of his career. Nasser looks more like a clown rather than a top-notch medical professional and so is actor Suman. They project themselves like funny baddies as in Baby’s Day Out.

On the whole, The Legend has a good theme that speaks about the current issue of diabetes which is rapidly increasing. However, the leading actor, the hackneyed storyline with clichés, and predictable and boring screenplay, except for 2-3 scenes make it a below-average fare.
