Vikrant Rona Movie Review

7 years ago, filmmaker Anup Bhandari made a new-fangled mystery-thriller titled Rangitaranga, which opened to positive reviews beyond boundaries and linguistic barriers. And now, with ‘Vikrant Rona’, the director takes us back to the fictional land of Kamarottu village, where a series of mysterious events over three decades are consistently happening. It’s when a police officer named Vikrant Rona (Kiccha Sudeep) arrives in the village to investigate the series of mysterious murders.

There was a season, where regional movies worked magic in Pan-Indian box office with its original language. The league of these movies got released only with the subtitles and had a fabulous response. Be it Marathi movie Sairat, Malayalam movie Drishyam, and yes, Kannada movie Rangitaranga: they were released in the original languages and found a remarkable reception. The only dubbing that happened was either for YouTube or satellite channels. However, the concept of Pan-India has taken a rise, where the makers are going with the dubbing in multiple languages and claiming it to be same. It looks like; the high-time has arrived for this phase to end now.

Just imagine, a movie like Vikrant Rona that is made on a larger canvas with a mystery-thriller plot set in the fictional land would be received well only by audiences used to the premise. Or else, it would be marked verdicts based on the 3D effects, Kiccha Sudeep, who is familiar on Pan-Indian movies for his association with big time directors like Ram Gopal Varma and SS Rajamouli.

What’s appreciable about the movie is the outstanding 3D visuals. During the time, where even some of Hollywood movies like Jurassic Dominion chiseled us with 3D effects in few scenes alone, VR stands out to be a top-notch 3D visual treat. Next appreciable thing is the performance of Sudeep. The interval twist followed by some gripping surprises with peck of horror and climax surprise about all the characters is the takeaways.

On the flip side, the way, the mystery-drama is treated might not be a cherry-pick for regular main stream movie lovers. This more like a Hollywood pattern, where the dialogues are limited, but the visual impact is more.

On the whole, Vikrant Rona is appreciable for its visual brilliance and a few moments of twists, turns and surprises. More than all, it’s a big treat for the hardcore fans of Kiccha Sudeep fans.
