Vaanam Kottattum Movie Review
|Written by||Dhana Sekaran|
|Production company||Madras Talkies|
|Running Time||125 mins|
Some of the greatest movies have always carried simple stories. Especially, when it’s a film about life and relationships, it’s simple and yet varying egoistic perceptions about it creates issues. Such happens to be the relationship between an estranged father (Sarathkumar), whose bonding with his children (Vikram Prabhu and Aishwarya Rajesh) gets erupted after his imprisonment for 14 years due to a murder he committed. Will these broken bonds gets glued again or does fate has its own plans?
Mani Ratnam has always owned a unique art of crafting stories. They are simple yet engrossingly presented. This time, apart from producing a simple-emotional story along with his associate Dhana, who has directed the film, ‘Vaanam Kottattum’ stands out to be a fresh air amidst the gangster dramas, crime thrillers and supernatural horror tales. The primary source of attraction is the well written characters, which becomes your instant attention seeker. From Sarath Kumar-Radhika Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Rajesh and even the miniscule characters like Madhusudhana Rao, they are very well projected. When it comes to performance, they offer an upgraded version of themselves. The only minus we find is the weak characterization of Nandha. A few more substantiality to the role would have made it better. What’s the point in having twin roles remains to be vague?
When it comes to technical aspects , it’s Sid and Sid all the way. What a powerful music he has delivered. The simplest emotions get enhanced through his original score and Preetha Jayaraman’s cinematography is neat and brilliant.
Overall, Vaanam Kottattum brings back those seasons, where we in Tamil cinema experienced some beautiful family entertainers. There’s not even a single double entendre, liplocks, cuddling, violence, etc. It’s a film that you can watch along with your family. But just make sure that you are going to watch a ‘Drama’ genre that doesn’t has anything to do with Adrenalin Rush, High-octane action blocks.
